Centreville and Australia Team Up

August 4, 2011 - Centreville Manufacturing Inc has entered into an agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in NSW Australia. Our mutual goal is to take people “out of harms way” while working on an Australian road, and to convert a labor intensive task into a simple one person task.
The RTA builds and maintains the public roads and highways in the New South Wales portion of Australia. They have contacted us several times to learn more about our robotic traffic cone machines that we display on our website. We learned that they have employees dedicated to searching out or developing new devices or methods that will improve the safety and performance of the workers and the travelling public. They take safety and innovation seriously, and we became a perfect match. To prove the point, we have been contacted about the AutoCone machine from Australia more than any other country. The machine both places and picks up traffic cones, requiring only a driver.
We have shipped one AutoCone 130 traffic cone machine unit to the RTA with the intent that this USA designed unit will serve as a benchmark to be modified for the vehicles and practices used in Australia. Those needed modifications will be learned while the machine is used on roadways during real life situations - such as construction, accidents, or diversions due to heavy traffic volume. We plan to modify the drum that stores the cones to fit the Australian design cone, and we expect the future machines to be truck mounted instead of trailer mounted. The rest we will learn together.
Placing or picking up cones on an active roadway is a dangerous job, especially today with all of the distractions that drivers have. We predict that labor and safety agencies along with the insurance carriers will mandate that employees will no longer be allowed to perform this work while walking or riding in the back of a truck. We believe that the AutoCone is a much safer option that will pay for itself in reduced labor costs. We take our hat off to the RTA for wanting to do just that.
